Bob Barr Will Run for U.S. House in 2014 as a Republican

On March 28, former Congressman Bob Barr, who was also the Libertarian presidential nominee in 2008, said he will run for U.S. House as a Republican in the 11th Georgia district. There will be no incumbent. See this story, which has a factual error and says Barr ran for President in 2012. Thanks to PoliticalWire for the link.

Bob Barr Will Run for U.S. House in 2014 as a Republican — No Comments

  1. Bob Barr is nothing but a traitor to the Libertarian Party. He was nothing more than a sad attempt by the Republicans to unsuccessfully absorb the Libertarian Party. What a sellout.

  2. Dan M.,

Not sure how your math works out. Republicans attempting to drive voters to Libertarian Party presidential ticket to “absorb” voters?

    Libertarian: +1 voter
    Republican: – voter

    This math helps Republicans?

  3. Maybe that error that said that Bob Barr ran for president last year was because confusion with Roseanne Barr, who DID run for president in 2012.

  4. I think Barr really did become more libertarian in his beliefs, but he had horrible timing in his presidential run and he didn’t communicate his message very well. As a result, many LP members view him as a Benedict Arnold/wolf in sheep’s clothing.

  5. Barr’s problem with Libertarians wasn’t merely a “failure to communicate.” He actively promoted himself as a “true republican” in contrast to the supposed RINO credentials of John McCain. I was the LP candidate for US Senate that same year. Yet, I heard him, on a local talk radio station, promote himself to Republicans because he would bring voters to other Republican candidates down the ballot. He never mentioned other Libertarian candidates. And when I contacted his campaign to protest, I never heard a word.

  6. If Bob Barr were smart, he should’ve run as an independent or moved to a “fusion voting” state and get the endorsements of all the third parties. 😛
