Eric Holder Criticizes State Legislative Proposals to End Winner-take-all Presidential Elector Selection

On April 5, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, in a speech, criticized various election law bills pending in state legislatures. Included in his criticism are bills and proposed bills to end the winner-take-all system for electing presidential electors. Such a bill is pending in Pennsylvania and may eventually be introduced in Michigan. See this story.

  1. One would think he might instead focus on voter ID laws, but, nope…

    What an administration.

  2. What about the gerrymander E.C. votes in ME and NE ???

    —–
    Abolish the E.C.
    Uniform definition of Elector.
    P.R. and nonpartisan App.V.
    ONE election day.

  3. The Maine and Nebraska Electoral Vote system should be adopted nationwide. It will finally match the Electoral College with the House and Senate. This is the ideal way to choose a national leader.

Holder is a political hack. His only goal is to make it easier to have a one-party lock on the electoral apparatus.

This idea of a one-party lock, or worse, change to a one-party system as in the case of “top-two” is what is driving the power elite in many states.

The obvious intent and purpose of “top-two” is to create a single party, just like the communist party, and end free elections in America altogether.

The NPV plan is designed to generate a nationwide one-party lock for the Democrats. To create a permanent dominant party. Not quite as bad as “top-two” but only as a matter of degree.

The actions inside most states where one party dominates, as in Montana recently, is to allow the power elite currently in control through one-party domination, to maintain that control by legally eliminating the chance of competition. Thus they will use election laws, ballot access restrictions, and even make a deal with “top-two” to lock in power for their evil purposes.

Winner-take-all EC voting prevents a more natural allocation of Electoral votes within each state. It also encourages one-party domination by state, although it still allows for a nationwide balance of power between the States and the Federal Government. This helps to protect our liberty by preserving the power of States vs. the Federal Government, although it does so in a more limited manner than the ME/NE plan would.

The ideal solution, that protects our Liberty through the preservation of our system of State vs. Federal power, while also increasing competition within each state, would be the nationwide adoption of the Maine/Nebraska Electoral College system. This should be the goal of those who want both the preservation of free elections and the preservation of liberty.

We also need to: expand the US House of Repreentatives to a minimum of 600 to 800 members, admit Puerto Rico as the 51st State, and return the remaining portion of DC, ouside a small Federal enclave, to Maryland. (Half was already returned to Virginia.)

  4. # 3 Half the votes in half the variable RIGGED pack / crack gerrymander areas = 1/4 CONTROL = ANTI-Democracy

    — with or without gerrymander Rep districts in States having 2 or more Rep. seats.

The E.C. was one more late EVIL deal by the EVIL small States and the Super-EVIL slave States in the top secret 1787 Fed. Convention

    — due to the alleged inability to have a uniform definition of Elector-Voter in ALL of the States (i.e. different property ownership requirements to be an Elector in the elitist State regimes).

See the later Dorr’s War in the 1840s in very small RI – the last State to get a written State constitution.

See the MAJOR effort – The Records of the Federal Convention of 1787 edited by Max Farrand (1911, revised edition 1937).

  5. 3 –

    From this:

“The actions inside most states where one party dominates, as in Montana recently, is to allow the power elite currently in control through one-party domination, to maintain that control by legally eliminating the chance of competition. Thus they will use election laws, ballot access restrictions, and even make a deal with “top-two” to lock in power for their evil purposes.”

    How does this follow?

“The Maine and Nebraska Electoral Vote system should be adopted nationwide. It will finally match the Electoral College with the House and Senate. This is the ideal way to choose a national leader.”

    And please…be rational.

  6. Much of #3 makes pretty good sense. I would like to see Oregon adopt a Electoral College system just like those in Maine and Nebraska.

  7. The other day I read this article on allocating half-electors, so here’s an idea.

    1) District Electors: Winning candidate gets two-thirds of an electoral vote, runner-up gets one-third of an electoral vote.

    2) At-large Electors: Winning candidate gets one electoral vote, runner-up get one electoral vote.

  8. Here’s another idea (humbly suggested from an ignorant foreigner) why not have the candidate who wins the most votes win the election?

  9. The Stone Age folks who love ANTI-Democracy minority rule systems are the EVIL insane lunatics on this list

    — i.e. the MORONS who love King George III, Napoleon, Kaiser Bill, Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini, Hirohito, Mao, Saddam, etc. etc.

    P.R. and nonpartisan App.V.
Death to monarchy/oligarchy systems — before it is too late.

  10. Direct election by plurality voting in single member districts for members of congress, legislators, city and county offices and even statewide for Governor and US Senate works well. These are relatively small, fairly homogeneous geographic areas.

However, for massively large, geographically diverse, and culturally national elections, direct election is a recipe for disaster. It allows small geographic regions or small clusters, such as a handful of cities, to dominate over peoples, regions and cultures far removed in distance, culture, lifestyle, heritage and belief from an opressive majority.

There is nothing inherent in democracy per se that makes it worth having or seeking as a goal. Democracy is merely a tool to ensure liberty. When it is doomed instutionally to fail, as in diverse, continental sized nationwide elections, it must be modified of abandoned.

Our goal is the preservation of liberty in a prosperous and peaceful nation. Direct election of POTUS and VP is inimical to that goal.

The Electoral College system allows the use of a modified democratic means to choose national leaders while ensuring a nationwide balance of interests in the outcome.

The balance of power and balance of interests in the House and Senate is far better than any parliamentary system. Parliamentary systems are notably incompetent and have failed even over the smaller and more homogeneous European states where applied.

We can perfect the Electoral College system by employing the same balance within the EC under the ME/NE allocation system.

This will preserve and expand our Liberty through the enhancement of our system of State vs. Federal power, while also increasing competition within each state. This should be the goal of those who want both free elections and liberty.

We should also: expand the US House of Repreentatives to a minimum of 600 to 800 members, admit Puerto Rico as the 51st State, and return the remainder of DC, ouside a small Federal enclave, to Maryland.

  11. 12 –

Oh…I see. We should fear those “urban folk” who reproduce faster than the rest of us and are voting in bigger numbers now?

  12. # 12 Attention any math MORONS on this list —

    Democracy = MAJORITY RULE

Monarchy/oligarchy = minority rule — think King George III and the Brit top oligarchs in 1775-1783 — Am. Rev. WAR.

Think the slave monarchs/oligarchs in 1776-1865 in the slave States.

Think Kaiser Bill and the Central Powers oligarchs in WW I.

Think Hitler, Mussolini, Hirohito and their gangs of oligarch KILLERS/enslavers in WW II.

How many ANTI-Democracy MORONS are on this list ??? — who love plurality winners and minority rule gerrymander regimes especially.
    ——
    P.R. and nonpartisan App.V.

DEATH to monarchy/oligarchy regimes — and ALL the EVIL and suffering they have imposed in the last 7000 plus years.

  13. @14 You are so confused.

    The goal is liberty.

Democracy is no ideal, it is just a tool used to maintain liberty. When it fails, as in large nation states, it must be modified or abandoned.

A chain saw is a wonderful tool. Most surgeons do not use it in the operating room.

You are a logic and math moron. Go back to your useless club and appoint yourself to something. Then pretend that it is real … Oh, yeah, your make-believe world is where your head is stuck … a dark, smelly, ignorant, make-believe world …

Be careful you don’t fart and blow your own head off.

  14. @16 Yes. Absolutely.

Oogle’s fantasy parliament game has boggled his own mind.
