Independent Voter Project Again Sponsors Retreat in Hawaii for California State Legislators

Every year, the Independent Voter Project sponsors meetings in Hawaii for state legislators from certain states. In the past the event was only for California legislators, but this year legislators from three states are invited. The Independent Voter Project was one of the groups that intervened in various lawsuits that concerning the California top-two system. See this story about this year’s conference. Legislators receive free air travel and free rooms at the hotel, but some legislators who attend pay their own way.

  1. This has probably been discussed here on BAN, but when I’ve Googled who funds Independent Voters Project I find nothing. Who is the big money behind IVP? Thank you.

  2. As the story itself mentions, Charles Munger is one funder. According to his campaign finance report, he spent over $42,000,000 on election campaign expenditures (much of it independent expenditures) in 2012, all in California. He is the leading financial backer behind the top-two system in California, and he also is a big funder for the Republican Party.
