West Virginia Elects an 18-Year-Old College Freshman to State Legislature

Saira Blair, a Republican nominee for West Virginia legislature, was elected on November 4. She is 18 years old and a college freshman. When she won the May 2014 primary, ousting an incumbent, she was only 17 years old. See this story.

  1. To bad she wants “…to work to reduce certain taxes on businesses.”

    How about reducing the taxes on those who work for a living?

  2. I did my best, but the independent-minded voters just weren’t motivated to turn out. Republicans, on the other hand, turned out in droves over anger with Obama and the Democrats were mostly so embarrassed by Obama that they stayed home too. 450,000 registered Democrats in West Virginia DID NOT vote. That’s 3/4s of them. Basically 2 out of 3 people whom I spoke with during my campaign (I personally met over 1000 voters) did not vote. Well, now the spotlight is on the Republicans who now control both houses of our state legislature, to walk the walk. They can’t complain about the Dems now.
