Republican National Convention in 2016 Likely to be July 18-21

According to this story, the Republican national convention is likely to be July 18-21, 2016. This is a drastic change from the 2012 convention, which was the August 28-30. The 2016 date will be known for sure later this month. The consequences of the date will resonate for election law, but it is difficult to know the full consequences until the Democratic Party chooses its 2016 convention dates.

  1. Obviously an earlier Elephant date due to the 2008 and 2012 chaos in the Elephant Prez primaries

    — i.e. DOA convention winners in the later general elections.

Abolish the time bomb Electoral College, all the Prez primaries and the robot hack conventions.

    P.R. and nonpartisan App.V.

  2. July is the time of year when the opposition party should have it’s convention. However, with 30 plus Republican candidates thinking about running in 2016 I would not count on the convention ending on July 21st.

  3. The 2012 Republican Convention was held the last week in August. The Democrats were the ones who met the first week in September.

@Michael: Every four years, I read some speculation about the possibility of a brokered convention in one party or the other, and nothing like that ever comes close to occurring. Nor do I think it ever will again, at least not under the current primary system. Trust me, no later than the end of June 2016, we will know who the Republican presidential nominee will be, and that person will get nominated at the RNC on the first ballot.
