Mhairi Black, a 20-year-old student, has been elected to the British House of Commons. She is the Scottish National Party nominee. See this story, which says she is the youngest member since 1667.

  1. It would be nice if we had a 3rd party in the United States which could win enough seats in Congress to “hold the balance of power” and force the Democrats and Republicans to negotiate with them to form a majority.
    Sadly, we have too many voters – not just the politicians – who have it engrained in their mindset that one is “wasting their vote” if they vote for a 3rd party nominee. This could change, as we see the GOP coming to a crossroads in what direction it is going to take on certain social issues. It could go either way. The GOP may “change” and a 3rd party – one already existing or a newly organized one – may come into play that will have the financial clout to convince voters they need to support that 3rd party. Or, if the GOP does not change, it may become a regional party, and an existing 3rd party or a newly organized one, may become the so-called “opposition” party.
    It will be very interested to see what happens in U.S. elections over the next 25 to 50 years.
