Dr. Ben S. Carson, a retired neurosurgeon, is a candidate for the Republican Party presidential nomination. He registered to vote in Palm Beach County, Florida, on July 24, 2013, and at that time he registered as a member of the Independence Party. On November 4, 2014, he changed his party affiliation to the Republican Party. See this story.
Before he was registered to vote in Florida, he was registered in Maryland, and while in Maryland he was a registered independent for several decades.
Are you now or have you ever been a member of the ABC/XYZ Party or an independent ???
Stuff from the Red Scare era — circa 1945-1962.
Too bad he re-registered Republican. He has zero chance of the GOP nomination but is an inspiring story and role model. He might have made a difference in November 2016 but unfortunately he won’t be there. I would think some minor party would love to have him.
Although Florida is the 3rd largest state by population, nobody from Florida has ever been on a Democratic or Republican ticket as the presidential or vice presidential candidate. (Granted, Florida used to be a lot less populous than it is now.) But there are four Florida residents running for the Republican nomination this year; besides Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio, both Ben Carson and Mike Huckabee also live in Florida now.
