Charles Lane, Washington Post Opinion Writer, Asks “Are We Headed for a 4-Party Moment?”

Charles Lane, veteran opinion writer for the Washington Post, has this column, “Are we headed for a 4-party moment?” He suggests the diversity of opinion in the U.S. is greater than in the recent past. He contrasts the present period to the 1850’s and also 1948. Thanks to Henry Hirose for the link.

  1. More or less CONTROL FREAK STATISM ???

Nothing new in 6,000 plus years — of mainly monarchy / oligarchy tyrant regimes — i.e. special interest gang laws — putting taxes imposed on the NET Tax Slaves into the pockets of the monarchs / oligarchs.

    P.R. and nonpartisan App.V.

  2. America has at least four distinct ideological factions: libertarians/hardcore conservatives, business conservatives (more moderate), moderate liberals (Blue Dog Democrats) and progressives. There are of course other factions, outside and within these four, but public opinion is clearly more diverse than our partisan system can reasonable accommodate and represent.

  3. I’ve been saying this for a while on other sites like Yahoo. This election has the potential to be similar to the 1912 election, although I’m not sure if it will necessarily be a four PARTY moment so much as it will be a three party moment (The Greens if Bernie loses the Democratic Primary) with one independent (Trump?).

  4. I find Joshua H.’s hubris in declaring that the Green Party will be the third of the three main parties in the 2016 election typical of members of that organization.
Never mind that the Libertarian Party has over the years been way more successful than the GP.
Not to mention the Socialist Party and other socialist parties who may benefit from support from the tens of thousands of Sanders supporters who won’t support Clinton.
