Pennsylvania Petition Requirement in 2016 to be Approximately 22,000 Signatures

The election returns for November 3, 2015 determine the number of signatures needed for statewide minor party and independent candidates in 2016. Democratic Supreme Court justice Kevin Dougherty received more votes than any other statewide candidate tonight. Therefore, 2% of his final vote total will be the 2016 petition requirement. Unofficial returns show that Dougherty has 1,079,512 votes.

  1. This is more signatures than have been required in Pennsylvania for at least the last couple of general even year elections (but of course the signature requirement has been hire than that in the future).

Hopefully the Libertarian Party petition drive in Pennsylvania for 2016 will be run better than it was in 2012.

  2. 2012 was 20,601.

    2008 was 24,666.

    2004 was 25,697.

    2000 was 21,739.

    1996 was 24,425.
