On December 16, filing for the Ohio 2016 primary closed. Here is a list of the candidates who filed for statewide office. Ohio has three ballot-qualified parties: Republican, Democratic, and Green.

No one filed in the Green Party presidential primary, but the party does have a candidate for U.S. Senate, which is the only other statewide office up in 2016.

For the presidential primary, 12 Republicans filed and 5 Democrats filed.

Ohio Primary Filing Closes — 2 Comments

  1. what happened with the Green Party candidates? Does anyone know why Jill and the others missed the deadline? Is there another way on to the General Election ballot in Ohio?

  2. There is no connection between running in the presidential primary and being on in November. All minor party presidential primaries are just beauty contests (except Liberty Union Party in Vermont says its presidential primary is binding on the party’s choice of a November nominee).
