Rocky De La Fuente Blasts Georgia Democratic Party for Keeping Him Off Presidential Primary Ballot

Rocky De La Fuente has criticized the Georgia Democratic Party for not putting his name on the Georgia Democratic presidential primary. See this story. Georgia and Florida are the only two states in which there is no way to get on a presidential primary ballot if the state party leaders choose not to list the candidate. See this story.

Oddly enough, the Georgia Democratic Party did list Michael Steinberg. Steinberg will be on the ballot along with Hillary Clinton, Martin O’Malley, and Bernie Sanders. Steinberg is only on the ballot in four other Democratic presidential primaries, far fewer than De La Roque.

The Georgia Republican ballot will include Jeb Bush, Ben Carson, Chris Christie, Ted Cruz, Carly Fiorina, Lindsey Graham, Michael Huckabee, John Kasich, George Pataki, Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, Rick Santorum, and Donald Trump. This list of 13 Republicans was finalized on December 17, before Graham and Pataki withdrew. It does not include Jim Gilmore, even though he has not withdrawn.

In 1992, David Duke, who was running in Republican presidential primaries, sued Georgia and Florida over those states’ laws that let no method to get on a presidential primary ballot for candidates not chosen by the state party leaders. However, he lost both lawsuits.

  1. I wonder if Steinberg has made donations to the Georgia Democratic committee in the past or has some other connection to them.

  2. Richard Winger,

I would like to read the two 1992 cases that David Duke was
a Plaintiff. Please post the cases name and number.

  3. Mark, the cases in the 11th circuit were: Florida, Duke v Smith, 13 F 3d 388 (1994). Georgia, Duke v Cleland, 87 F 3d 1226 (1996).

Duke won a technical victory in the Florida case; the court said there had to be a mechanism for reconsideration of a denial of ballot access. But it was a hollow victory that made no practical difference.

Clay, I am about 99% certain there is no write-in space on Georgia presidential primary ballots.

  4. Steinberg is from Florida. He probably has friends in both the Florida and Georgia Dem parties.
What surprises me the most is the lack of a minority candidate for the Democrat nomination.

  5. I had not made a contribution to the Democratic Party of Georgia. I have made contributions to the Florida Democratic Party for many years and they declined my request to be placed on the ballot. Currently I am representing Mr. De La Fuente in a ballot access lawsuit against the State of Florida.

    Michael Steinberg

  6. I’m narrowly escaping the evil claws of that network. Lives mean nothing to them, Literally. They still do deadly favors for each other and I hope they are eventually stopped. The matters now aren’t as big as these yet their actions are far worse even at the the expense of children.
