Various California Newspapers Publicize Decisions of the Six Qualified Parties on Whether Independents Can Vote in Various Presidential Primaries

Ever since 2001, each California qualified party has made a decision as to whether to let independent voters vote in its primaries. But in the past, these decisions were barely publicized. However, the recent decisions by California’s six qualified parties on whether to let independents vote in their presidential primaries has received publicity. For example, see this story, which, like the other stories, explains that three parties will let independents vote in their presidential primaries, and the other three won’t.

  1. Voters not affiliated with one of the six parties qualified to participate in the presidential preference primary may also choose a ballot from one of the three parties.

  2. Jim Riley,

Does Election Code 6769 still apply to the Libertarian Party? Does the E-135 Report of Registration apply to the ballot access of 1 % or more? I know that the February 10, 2015 numbers to get on the LP ballot in California would be 1,219 to the number of AIP of 4,802. Therefore, the access number would be far smaller with the LP. Let’s see how Michael Bloomberg will use either AIP or LP to get access to the California ballot in the June 7, 2016
Primary election. My hope is Bloomberg will see running in the
LP will be far easier than the AIP and will live AIP alone.

  3. attn. Mark Seidenberg – Bloomberg could get on the Calif. Libertarian Party presidential primary and win it with a half million votes and it would be meaningless. The Libertarian Party
primary in Calif. is not more than a “beauty contest” since the party conducts in Natl Conv & nominates its candidate a week prior to the Calif. primary!
