It is likely that the Maryland Democratic presidential primary ballot will have four candidates, and the Republican ballot will have twelve. The Democrats will be: Hillary Clinton, Martin O’Malley, Bernie Sanders, and Rocky De La Fuente. The first three were put on last month because they are discussed in the news media, and De La Fuente got on by submitting 3,200 signatures of registered Democrats.
The Republicans will be: Jeb Bush, Ben Carson, Chris Christie, Ted Cruz, Carly Fiorina, Mike Huckabee, John Kasich, Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, Rick Santorum, Donald Trump, and Robert H. Heller, Jr., of Maryland. The first eleven were put on automatically last month because they are discussed in the media. Heller submitted petitions. Heller has not qualified for any presidential primary in any other state this year, so far at least.
It is not certain that the De La Fuente and Heller petitions will be valid, because they haven’t been checked yet. The signatures were due February 3.
And O’Malley officially withdrew from the primary on February 5th.
And there will be 13 candidates in the Democratic primary for mayor of Baltimore. The election administrator wants to use paper ballots instead of computer voting machines because the machines can’t fit all the candidates onto one page. The candidates on the second page might be at a serious disadvantage.
