California Bill Advances, Would Let Felons Vote if they are in County Jails Instead of State or Federal Prisons

California Assemblymember Shirley Weber introduced AB 2466 earlier this year. It would let felons vote while they are incarcerated, if they are serving their time in county jails instead of state or federal prisons. The bill passed the Assembly on May 31 and passed the Senate Elections Committee on June 22.

The California legislature is is recess but will convene in a few weeks. The only states now that let felons vote while they are incarcerated are Maine and Vermont. Most countries allow felons to vote while they are serving a sentence.

  1. Hmmm. How about close the State prisons and have the various killers, rapists, home invaders, robbers, traitors, etc. be in those fine county jails only ???

How about having ALL folks esp. foreigners who buy CA stuff be able to vote in CA ???

Just more of the nonstop COMMUNIST Donkey agenda at work.

  2. There are lots of people who are in jail for victimless crimes. These people ought to be able to vote.

  3. Texas has five classes of felony: capital; 1st; 2nd; and 3rd degree; and state jail felony.

1st, 2nd, and 3rd are served in prison, and have different length sentences. State jail felonies are served in county jails, and have a sentence of 180-2 years. So it is an intermediate level between more severe felonies and misdemeanors.

  4. “I agree with what Demo Rep posted.” That’s certainly a comment I’d never thought I’d see.
