Eight Presidential Candidates Submit Petitions in Iowa

The Iowa deadline for petitions for independent candidates, and the nominees of unqualified parties, is August 19. Eight petitions were submitted for President:

1. Darrell Castle, Constitution Party
2. Jill Stein, Green Party
3. Dan R. Vacek, Legal Marijuana Now
4. Gary Johnson, Libertarian Party
5. Rocky De La Fuente, Reform Party
6. Gloria LaRiva, Socialism & Liberation
7. independent Evan McMullin
8. independent Lynn Kahn

Iowa hasn’t had any ballot-qualified parties, other than Republican and Democratic, since 2002.

  1. Isn’t there another way to qualify, by holding a convention attended by so many people? I was told the Prohibition Party had completed its ballot access process in Iowa, wasn’t sure which method they were using.

  2. The convention method tricky. The petition method requires 1,500 signatures, with one from at least 10 of Iowa’s 99 counties. The convention requires signatures from only 250 people, but there needs to be at least one valid signature from each of the 99 counties.

  3. The Socialist Party USA used the convention method the last time they qualified in Iowa.

  4. Hedges was supposed to be on the Iowa ballot, does anyone know the score? They had elector problems in TM

  5. Here is a link to a Des Moines Register article about this:

    http://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/politics/2016/08/19/presidential-candidates-johnson-mcmullin-qualify-iowa-ballot/89007002/

This was posted last evening. The article says that McMuffin submitted 2800 signatures. It also said Johnson submitted enough, but doesn’t specify the number. The article seems to imply that they both will be on the ballot, but it doesn’t seem to take into account the need to verify the signatures.

  6. I’m a bit surprised that Tom Hoefling did not file there since it’s his home state. IIRC, getting on the ballot in Iowa was one of the items he offered to bring to the table at the Constitution Party’s nominating convention. Well, no, actually I am not surprised.

  7. Will Clinton or Trump get elected to be Prez with even 20-30 (repeat 20-30) percent of the popular votes — due to the various 3rd party and independent Prez candidates ???

Will the EVIL gerrymander oligarchs respond by WIPING OUT all such 3rd party and independent candidates for ALL offices ???
    Stay tuned.

EVIL and CORRUPT MONSTERS go NUTS when they are in danger of losing POWER.
