Evan McMullin Says he Wants to Debate Gary Johnson and Jill Stein

According to this story, Evan McMullin said on September 2 that he wants to debate Gary Johnson and Jill Stein. The story implies that McMullin did not mention Darrell Castle or Rocky De La Fuente, both of whom will be on the ballot in more states than McMullin will.

Evan McMullin Says he Wants to Debate Gary Johnson and Jill Stein — 16 Comments

  1. Gary Johnson should debate Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, not Jill Stein or the others, whose names I cannot remember.

  2. M Carling, Jill Stein is going to be on the ballot in as many or even more states than Ralph Nader was in 2000. She is the only progressive/left-wing candidate on the ballot in a majority of states. She should be in the debates with Johnson, Trump, and Clinton, so voters have a chance to hear from ALL of their options.

  3. It’s beyond presumptuous of Mr. McMullin to think that his candidacy is on the same echelon as Gary Johnson’s and Jill Stein’s. Come back when you have ballot access to more than 100 electoral votes.

  4. That’s a great response to M Carling from Joshua H. The arrogance of some of Gary Johnson’s smug supporters is absolutely astounding.

  5. Even if Jill Stein were to be on the ballot in all 50 states plus DC (like Clinton, Johnson, and Trump), she still would not be in the same league as the three serious candidates because unlike the top three candidates, Stein has zero chance of winning the presidency.

On the other hand, there are a handful of states that Johnson could plausibly win (plurality required). If Johnson wins just one state, it could prevent Clinton and Trump from attaining 270 votes in the electoral college, which would throw the election to the House. If that happens, Clinton cannot win because no Republican in the House will vote for her. The Democrats would know this, so their best strategy would be to vote for Johnson. There would probably be enough anti-Trump Republicans to join them and elect Johnson president.

Even if Stein could win one state (which she can’t), there would be zero chance that she could win the presidency. So the idea that Stein is in the same league with Clinton, Johnson, and Trump is ridiculous.

  6. “Even if Jill Stein were to be on the ballot in all 50 states plus DC (like Clinton, Johnson, and Trump), she still would not be in the same league as the three serious candidates because unlike the top three candidates, Stein has zero chance of winning the presidency.”

There’s that arrogance again — this time with a little delusional thinking added in for good measure.

  7. …and you’re right, Jill Stein isn’t in the same league as Gary Johnson. When it comes to understanding the issues and articulating a vision for the country, she’s not stuck in the minor leagues like the perpetually stoned former governor of New Mexico, a guy destined for a lifetime in the “farm system.”

  8. “The Democrats would know this, so their best strategy would be to vote for Johnson.” — M Carling

I can see it now. House Democrats tripping all over themselves to vote for an austerity monger who, only four years ago, called for an immediate $1.4 trillion, 43 percent across-the-board cut in federal spending — a draconian proposal that would have had catastrophic consequences for America’s most vulnerable citizens while wreaking havoc on the U.S. and global economies.

  9. “… the perpetually stoned former governor of New Mexico ….” — Darcy G Richardson

That’s an ad hominem which is obviously false. No one with two or more synapses thinks that Gary Johnson was stoned when he summited Mount Everest.

I’m an environmentalist (I crewed with Sea Shepherd twice, drive an electric car, etc.) but there is no way I could vote for Jill Stein because she is bat shit crazy on nearly every issue, including environmental issues. She would try to solve problems by increasing the size and power of the federal government, but the federal government is the source and cause of most of the problems facing America, including environmental problems. The US government is by far the biggest polluter in the United States. The most effective way to reduce pollution in the United States is to dramatically reduce the size and power of the US government, especially the military.

  10. Darcy, Jill Stein is no more qualified to be POTUS than you or me. On the other hand, the Libertarian ticket is two former two-term governors. Johnson/Weld are not just the most qualified ticket this year. No other party in the history of the United States has ever run a ticket with as much governance experience as Johnson/Weld. The idea that Jill Stein is in the same league as Clinton, Johnson, and Trump is preposterous.

  11. NONPARTISAN Approval Voting for all elected executive offices and all judges —

Vote for 1 or more, Highest win — pending head to head math (which will take SOME public education due to the low low low intelligence level of the New Age brain dead media).

  12. Total waste of time for Johnson. A key point of the McMullin campaign is to get enough votes to deny Johnson electoral votes and thus help both Hillary and Trump. Why help him? Besides, he will probably be on less than 10 ballots. Darryl Castle has more credibly in that regard.

  13. Actually, Jill Stein has more electoral experience than Donald Trump. So… Anyway, Darrell Castle of the Constitutional Party has more ballot access than Evan McMullin. Counting the states in which he is a write-in, Darrell Castle has accumulated access to 276 electoral votes so far. Twice that of Evan McMullin.

  14. The arrogance and delusional thinking of some of Jill Stein’s smug supporters is absolutely astounding. If people are voting for her on principle, more power to them. It is however preposterous to suggest that she might win.
