Gary Johnson did not help himself with that gaffe this past week.

That’s highly debatable. Johnson’s numbers for people who don’t know who he is have been quite high, but after being the focus of attention for a bit a lot more people have to have heard of him. Invariably some will decide he’s all right, especially considering the competition.
Trump should stop and recall that having a lot of competitors in the primary debates helped him to distinguish himself.
Well of course he would say that. He wants to eliminate as much competition as he can.
Trump wants to build a wall, to keep out political competition.
