Democratic Party Has More State Legislative Candidates than Republican Party Does, for First Time Since 2008

This year, there are Democratic candidates for state legislature in 4,690 of the races. There are Republican candidates for state legislature in 4,655 races. This is the first time since 2008 that there have been more races with a Democrat running than with a Republican running.

In 41.7% of the legislative races this year, either the Republicans, or the Democrats, failed to run anyone. That isn’t quite as bad as 2014, when the percentage of races without one of the major parties was 43.3%.

  1. ANTI-Democracy minority rule OLIGARCHS control in ALL 50 States —

1/2 or less votes x 1/2 rigged gerrymander districts = 1/4 or less CONTROL = OLIGARCHY.

Reality — in many regimes ONE top robot party HACK controls the legislative agenda = MONARCHY — generally totally evil and corrupt.

    P.R. and nonpartisan App.V.

  2. Vulpes, I have calculated that but I want to double-check it before I release it. The Nov 1 2016 print Ballot Access News will have that information for all states, for all parties. The Libertarian Party and the Green Party have more legislative candidates in 2016 than they did in 2014, even though more seats were up in 2014 than are up in 2016.

  3. I’m one of nine Greens running for State House (Senate isn’t up this year) — and I face a Republican incumbent and an on-the-ballot-only Democrat.

That nine is out of 110, alas. We had a few more new members who were considering it but decided they wanted to wait until 2018.

  4. A professional wrestler is running for the Michigan state Legislature as a Republican this year .Us he for real orca phony like Vince McMahon WWE wrestling.Maybe Hulk Hogan should have ran to .

  5. Due to the various ANTI-Democracy minority rule gerrymanders ONLY about 3 percent of the gerrymander seats are *competitive* — under 55 percent winners.

The HACK incumbents LOVE their 55 plus percent RIGGED districts.

Result — the pending Civil WAR II — see the HACK incumbents north and south in 1860.

This time the chaos may be in ALL States — urban vs. suburban vs. rural.

  6. Welp, former wrestler Jesse Ventura managed to win the governorship in Minnesota. And a former body builder Arnold Schwartzeneggar won the governorship of California. Former comedian Al Franken is now senator of Minnesota. Former dramatic actor Fred Thompson was senator from Tennessee. Former Love Boat actor Fred Grandy became representative from Iowa. Former singer Sonny Bono was mayor and the representative in California. Former actor Ronald Reagan became governor and then president. The world of sports and entertainment have definitely had skin the political game.

  7. Monster reality show actor Trump now running for Prez.

Public attention span to history and constitutional LAW now about 1 second or less — due to the accumulated effects of radio, TV, videos, internet ??? Duh.

  8. A significant number of seats in California have 2 Ds or 2 Rs thanks to our top two jungle primary system. So much for better choices.
