John Kasich Casts a Write-in Vote for President

Ohio Governor John Kasich has already voted in the November 8 election. He told the press that for president, he wrote in John McCain. See this story. As the story notes, John McCain is not a declared presidential write-in candidate, so Kasich’s vote will not be tallied.

Between 1947 and 1968, Ohio did not permit write-in votes in the general election. In 1968 a 3-judge U.S. District Court ruled in Socialist Labor Party v Rhodes that the U.S. Constitution requires write-in space on the ballot, so the legislature legalized write-ins in 1969. John Kasich Casts a Write-in Vote for President — 13 Comments

  1. Personally, I was hoping he’d vote for Johnson, just because the irony would be so great. But no, he truly wasted his vote.

  2. The Declaration Of Independence. Texas statehood. Woman Suffrage. Lend Lease. All by one vote.

  3. Now let’s see if something strange happens on Friday Saturday or Monday that could disrupt these elections.Maybe the North Koreans will do something.Maybe China will have war ships on the coast of California.Ot the stock market will crash.Possible assassination.Things happen .Now let’s see who the cultured and sophisticated will vote for.Yes Russia and China are preparing there citizens for war.Whg aren’t we.

  4. Re the non counting of votes —

14th Amdt, Sec. 2 is still part of the de facto DEAD U.S.A. Const.

  5. John Kasich did send a message. Now let’s see how many Republicans will do the same thing.I just want to see something strange happen.

  6. I am betting there will be a lot of Republicans who actually do vote for Trump and then lie about it. That’s why most of this polling is complete bull.

  7. Jeff Becker

In California the status of voting for Trump/Pence will not be able to come up with the required list of 55 Presidential Electors. Because the Chairman of the CA GOP would not agree on a 50 & 5 split between the GOP
    & the AI.

  8. Mark Seidenberg,

It doesn’t matter, California has no process defined in statute for translating marks made on a ballot paper into determining which persons are chosen as presidential elector, regardless whether some were properly nominated or not. California ballots also did not include mandatory instructions.

Since no electors will be appointed from California, a majority in the electoral college will be 242 of 483.

  9. Intersting I worte in Kasich on my ballo tin FL. Glad to be in good company. neither major party candidate earned my vote this election cycle.
