Washington Secretary of State Says She Will Fine the Four “Disobedient” Presidential Electors

See this story about the electoral college vote in Olympia, Washington. It says the Secretary of State plans to enforce a $1,000 fine against each of the four. This is actually good news for those who believe the courts should settle the question of whether duly-elector presidential electors can be punished for voting for someone other than expected. It guarantees that their pending lawsuit won’t be deemed moot. Thanks to Eric Garris for the link.

  1. Thus – voting for the HACKS on the ballot as a REQUIREMENT to be APPOINTED a 12th Amdt Prez/VP Elector ???

    i.e. STATE principal — E.C. Elector agent — i.e. principal-agency law ???

Will SCOTUS have a 9th HACK by the time of any appeals ???

  2. The other pending lawsuit will be in Colorado, where Michael Baca intends to challenge his removal and replacement while attempting to vote for Kasich. The state also might charge him with perjury for violating the oath the Secretary of State wrote and announced just this morning.

  3. In the past when there were “faithless” electors, I don’t seem to remember there being such punishment and threats. This election had two of the most despised candidates (even within their own parties) with one result being many more people than in the past wanting not just alternative candidates but questioning various aspects of the election system, from how primaries to the electoral college. So the response from various Secretaries of State is to double down on enforcing provisions that have never been enforced before. I see this as adding to peoples’ cynicism about the whole election process.
