Some supporters of the National Popular Vote idea have completed the paperwork to begin circulating an initiative petition in Missouri for the plan. Other states that have the initiative process, but which have not yet passed the plan, are Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Idaho, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming. Thanks to Ken Bush for this news.
Of the states listed I can only see it passing in Oregon, and perhaps Colorado, Maine & Michigan
The public opinion polls generally show it having majority support in all states.
Maine already has Presidential voting by districts. And, given the support for ranked choice voting there, I don’t see NPV as an alternative there.
On the whole, I think NPV would have a better chance if it required a majority of the popular vote to go into effect. Then, states would be encouraged to adopt ranked choice voting to increase their impact on the outcome.
If somebody here in MO shows me that petition, I’ll sign it.
Foolish, people have no concept of a republic.
