Vermont Law Apparently Will Permit 13-Year-Old to Get on Ballot for Governor — 6 Comments

  1. Some mini-history —

VT seceded from NY in 1777 during the Am Rev War — a de facto 14th State (with some major chaos with NY regime — which had major other problems with Brit military invasions and occupations)

    — but NOT listed in the 1777 Arts. of Confederation regime or 1783 USA-Brit Peace Treaty.

    — became the official 14th State in 1791 (after NY disclaimed VT area).

  2. Speaking of Vermont, it’s come out that longtime Liberty Union party co-founder Pete Diamondstone has passed away. Seemed like as fair a post as any to share that sad news.

And as for this post, yeah, I’m all for lowering age requirements to most offices to 18+, but I find this just absurd, running at 13. I mean, if they have no age requirements, nothing to be done about it, but it just seems like a stunt, as unfair as that might be to say.

  3. You tryin’ to tell me you could be a four-year old and be eligible to run for Governor in the Green Mountain State?

  4. @Bob,

It would put an interesting twist on the practice of candidates kissing babies.

Poll Question: Why do you favor or oppose the candidacy of baby Hillbaracka Roosevelt-Cleveland for governor:

    Unfavorable responses:

    She stinks.
    She spit on me.

    Favorable:

She has such a sweet smile.
Her parents don’t let her tweet.
She is easier to understand that Mitch McConnell.

  5. One of the reasons for minimum ages for elective offices in the federal constitution was to minimize the influence of dynastic families, as in European royalty.
