California 2018 U.S. Senate Candidate Kevin De Leon Confirms His Entry into Race

On October 15, California State Senator Kevin De Leon (D-Los Angeles) announced that he will enter the 2018 U.S. Senate race against incumbent Dianne Feinstein. Although this news had been reported a few days earlier, the earlier announcement had been based on sources other than De Leon himself. As noted several days ago, this means there is a high probability that in November 2018, California voters will not be able to vote for U.S. Senate unless they vote for a Democrat. See this story. Thanks to Thomas Jones for this news.

  1. Besides the centrist Feinstein and De Leon, there are already at least five other people who have announced they’re running in the primary, and many more potential candidates as well. Personally, while my hopes for an actual leftist are low (California gave us the same old establishment Democrat last year in Harris), but I can always hope that someone either defeats Feinstein (who has been a blight for ages), or at least makes it close enough where it scares her. That won’t matter as much, as unless she wants to be the new age Strom Thurmond, she won’t be running again anyway. For all the insults by conservatives thrown at California calling them socialist, when their U.S. Senators are Feinstein and now Harris, it really makes me laugh.

  2. What are the magic lines in CA (and anywhere else) between leftist, liberal, progressive, socialist, communist ???

    — all STATIST control freaks wanting to have 100 percent tax rates and total control of everybody doing those leftist, liberal, progressive, socialist, communist agenda items.

  3. The formerly “Golden” State’s two US Senators are statists and are hostile to some or all of the Bill of Rights (DiFi’s disdain for private firearm ownership and the freshman Senator has shown a dislike for the First Amendment). I don’t consider either of them “centrists.”

  4. Demo, it is not my fault you don’t care about political definitions. You remind me of the conservative who likes to say Nazi’s are far-left because it’s called National Socialism. It’s frankly just willful ignorance. The words do not exist solely so people can claim the Democratic Party isn’t socialist. Again, go to a socialist group online, maybe facebook if you have it, and talk to them, respectfully, about why they don’t consider the Democratic Party leftist. They will happily tell you.

I don’t link things here, since it’s not my site, but I’d also recommend you read Against Liberals by Rhyd Wildermuth from the site godsandradicals. It’ll help with the very basics of the difference between leftists and liberals in more detail than I care to go into (though it can be criticized for ignoring the term neoliberal, and the major difference is liberals and the Democratic Party support capitalism, and leftists in an international sense do not).

If you think being on the left automatically only means one thing, makes you a statist, and there is no difference at all between Marxist-Leninism, anarcho-socialism, and liberal, I don’t know what to say. Complaining about the existence of political terms and definitions that have been around for decades and have been discussed for decades seems rather… It just seems wrong, to say it simply. If there were no differences in ideology, the 10+ communist and socialist political parties in the U.S. and the fiveish generic leftish parties could all happily get behind the Democratic Party every election without complaint. That doesn’t happen, and there are ideological reasons for that, and simply calling them all the same brand of leftist statist is intellectually lazy.

  5. Bob, Feinstein is a complete warhawk who is a huge supporter of the NSA, who unconstitutionally spy on Americans. Feinstein is someone who no one on the left of American politics would claim. She is opposes marijuana legalization, worships the state of Israel (like most of our government), and is one of the many Democrats who is only liberal on things like some safe social issues. I think it’s very accurate to call her a very moderate liberal or a centrist. Quite frankly, I’m sure if you used European terms and understandings, she’d be a moderate conservative.

  6. This list is mainly about the unequal ballot access laws [esp since 1888-1890 – *official* primaries] and the various minority rule gerrymanders in legislative bodies [since 1200s England-1618 VA-1776 DOI-1788 USA Const] imposed by FORCE on the People and candidates by statist robot party hacks — the OLIGARCHS — leftists and rightists.

For anti Democracy statist stuff — see the commies in Russia in 1917-1918 Lenin terror and the nazis in Germany in 1933-1934 Hitler terror.

    PR and AppV

  7. Adolf Hitler WAS a socialist. He belonged to the National Socialist German Workers Party, which was originally known as the German Workers Party.

  8. National Socialism is a far-right ideology, not a far-left one. The first thing the Nazi’s did was attack the Communist Party and actual leftists so they wouldn’t have any chance to oppose them. Calling them socialist as though that means the same thing as socialism today (or even socialism back then, as the normal socialists were on the left and, again, opposed by the National Socialists), is outright ignorance and rather insulting.

  9. What do left and right statists have in common ???

Answer for dummies — control freak STATISM by a small gang of statist freaks from Hell.

Recent Examples — Lenin and his gang, Stalin and his gang, Mussolini and his gang, Hitler and his gang, Hirohito and his gang, Mao and his gang, Castro and his gang, Saddam and his gang, etc etc etc.

How many statist gangs in the USA now ???

  10. I’ve seen that kind of cropping on another candidate’s page I looked at yesterday, actually. Maybe it works on mobile? I don’t know, really. Maybe it’s a bad site deist, but I’d be surprised of it was just two candidates who put pictures up that cut off like that.

  11. You’re right, it is laid out for mobile. At least it didn’t chop his teeth or just leave his chin. And just show you know, he is wearing pants.
