New York Voters Likely to Reject Constitutional Convention Next Week

On November 7, New York state voters will vote on whether to call a constitutional convention. This poll shows that the measure is expected to lose by more than two to one. This is unfortunate, because New York state, in my opinion, would be far better off if it had provision for the initiative, and the only way to get the initiative is a constitutional convention.

  1. The so-called mainstream media is brain dead about Dark Age gerrymander math —

1/2 or less votes x 1/2 gerrymander areas = 1/4 or less control.

    — with much, much worse primary extremist math.

Esp. in NYS Senate and NYC Council.

    PR and AppV

  2. I’m employed by New York State government. I like my employer. It’s bad enough that the Supreme Court is going to effectively dissolve public sector unions next year. I don’t need more uncertainty.

  3. The Supreme Court is not going to “dissolve public sector unions” its just going to stop forcing people to join them. I am a public worker in NY and I would never pay a cent to my union if I didn’t have to. They advocate for things I hate and help the most incompetent keep their jobs at the expense of younger more qualified people.

  4. Brandon I think we have profoundly different world views. Time will tell. I think we’re about to see fewer wage increases, fewer opportunities for advancement, fewer discounts on various products, less pleasant working conditions, less paid time off…. we’ll see what happens.

What bothers me is the thought that when this comes down union workers will be stigmatized and that will be a shame.

    You want it.

  5. Right now people that are forced to join unions but want out are being stigmatized. There will be nothing stopping people from unionizing, they just won’t be able to take money from other people to fund them. I foresee fewer seniority style “step increase” wage increases and more merit/value based ones. One easy example of this is how in NY there is always a dearth of math and science teachers with many districts having to hire non-certified teachers or have other teachers teach outside their certification to teach those classes. Yet whenever there are elementary teacher openings there are 10x-50x more applications than positions. The reason? unions force districts to pay them the same salary. Many more people would go into math/science if they could go it alone without the union and negotiate their own pay.

Please note, I am not a math or science teacher but have been put in the position of teaching a science class once because they they couldn’t find a certified one and my content area is somewhat close.

  6. New York has one of the most corrupt governments in America. This is the people’s chance to take it back from the corruptocrats.
