Two Idaho Republican Legislative Candidates Remain on Primary Ballot but May be Disqualified Later

Idaho held its primaries on May 15. Two Republican candidates (both former legislators) had to go to court to remain on the ballot. They may be disqualified after the primary is over. The state Constitution says candidates must have been registered voters for a year before filing for the primary. The two candidates had lived in their districts long enough, but hadn’t registered in time. See this story.

  1. The constitution says that the candidate must have been an “elector” for one year.

It defines a “qualified elector” (i.e. one eligible to vote in an election) as having been registered.

What was the registration procedure in 1890 in Idaho? I thought voter registration was a later development?
