  1. JUNK reform on paper = JUNK in reality.

    NO primaries.

PR and AppV – pending Condorcet

  2. Given the headline this is a hit piece on ANY political reform. The problem is not the open primary system. The problem is the First-Past-the-Post voting system that is utilized in the CA Primary. The obvious solution is to use Ranked Choice Voting, perhaps make it a top 4 primary so voters have choices in November. However, RCV would truly threaten the two-party system. I suspect that the Democrats (and this author) are wanting to cast ALL political reform as radioactive so that they can go back to the old system that favored Democrats.

  3. I am a strong advocate of many reforms, including ranked choice voting, proportional representation, the national popular vote, easier and more uniform ballot access, greater access to presidential general election debates, redistricting reform, nondiscriminatory campaign finance laws, the ability of U.S. citizens living in territories and DC to have full voting rights, freedom for felons to vote, and greater freedom for political parties to nominate whomever they wish.

  4. ALL the major legislative bodies in the USA have been EVIL/VICIOUS gerrymander OLIGARCH regimes since day 1

    — ALL houses of ALL State legislatures and many local regimes – larger cities, counties, both houses of the USA Congress.

Govts of the OLIGARCHS, by the OLIGARCHS and for the OLIGARCHS. It shows.

Slavery 1619-1865, genocide of American Indians 1607-1890, no rights for minorities, undeclared wars, worse and worse ghettos, insane annual deficits, worse insane accumulated deficits, destruction of the Mother Earth eco-system ==== accumulated DOOOOOOM — waiting for Civil WAR II and/or World WAR III to finish off everybody – including the OLIGARCHS.

    PR and AppV

  5. Why should the state be involved with anointing political parties with “nominating” rights?

  6. ALL or SOME electors nominate.

    NO primaries, caucuses and conventions.

Nominating petitions or filing fees — for ballot access — names on ballots.
