Gary Johnson Accepts Libertarian Party Nomination for U.S. Senate in New Mexico

On the evening of August 13, Gary Johnson accepted the Libertarian Party nomination for U.S. Senate from New Mexico. See this story.

The second highest percentage in the past for any Libertarian running for U.S. Senate who had both a Republican and a Democratic opponent was achieved by Carla Howell in 2000. She got 11.89% in Massachusetts.

The highest was Joe Miller in Alaska in 2016. He got 29.23%.

  1. USA Senate = one of THE most ANTI-Democracy legislative bodies in Western Civilization

    — full of blowhard provincial robot party HACK morons esp. from the many below average small States.

Hacks were super rotted worse before 17th Amdt.
    —-
    PR and AppV

  2. If there was one state where he would at least get double digit percentages of the vote, it’s New Mexico, the state he formerly governed, and got over 9% of the vote for President in 2016. I’ll be watching this race.

  3. Even if Johnson doesn’t win, he could complicate things for Democrats, requiring them to spend money on a seat that they thought was safe. In any event, New Mexico is a prime candidate for ranked choice voting. Both Libertarians and Greens have the capacity to impact outcomes there. Is there an active RCV movement there?

  4. “Wasn’t Joe Miller just a Republican pretending to be a Libertarian?”

The same could be said of Gary Johnson.

  5. WZ,

The United Coalition USA does have a small 62-member team covering ss10:

    SouthWest Super-state Parliament Circuit #10

Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, New Mexico, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Utah

But the Libertarian Party under Gary Johnson isn’t interested.

    Though Johnson to the national,
he is an elected member, the only message received from him in six years was “unsubscribe” so he himself will likely not coordinate or collaborate with our team.

  6. Andy again proving himself to be a confused paleo-conservative. You really just need to go join the Constitution Party and get the fuck lost.

  7. @Casual Observer… disagree… he’s polling even with the Republican, and if he starts surpassing the Repub, fiscally moderate Dems will see it as safe to move over to Johnson. In a three way race right now, it’s 45% Dem, 25% Repub and 23% Johnson. The margin of error is 3.5% on the latest poll.

  8. DG – perhaps google search ??? — poll U.S. Senate New Mexico [November 2018]

Larger NM newspapers may have specific poll links ???

  9. I do not know who this Andrew character is, but Gary Johnson is not a real libertarian. He supports replacing the income tax with the Fair Tax, which is a 30% National sales tax, which he and other Fair Tax hucksters disingenuously claim is a 23% tax (which is still ridiculous), but when you examine the fine print, you finf out it is really a 30% tax. The Fair Tax promoters say that the Fair Tax is revenue neutral, which means it is designed to bring in as much for the federal government as does the income tax, so it does not reduce government. It also includes a predate scheme which gives everyone a check from the government, basically putting everyone on welfare.

    Gary Johnson also supports:

Forcing privatr businesses to provide goods and services to peopke they may not want to do this for (ie-the gay wedding cake controversy).

    The United Nations.

    Humanitarian wars (whatever that means).

Appointing Mitt Romney as Secretary of State.

    Universal Basic Income.

He thinks that Hillary Clinton is, “A wonderful public servant.”

And I could go on with other anti-liberty things he supports.

Even on the drug war, he only came out for taxing and regulating marijuana, which is already happening in a lot of states, so he was not breaking any new ground here, and it is also a watered down position, because tge actual libertarian position on marijuana is that it should be legal, and not taxed or regulated. He thinks that the War on other Drgs should continue, with no end in sight.

If anyone shoukd go to another party, it is you, and take Gary Johnson and Bill “CFR” Weld with you.

  10. Perhaps some NM nuke bomb test radiation got into the GJ brain ???

Super easy to be a COMMUNIST with the INCOME AND ASSETS of OTHER FOLKS.

See the millions of dead Russians in 1914-1953 – in the 2 world wars and civil war and purges.

See the more millions of dead Chinese in 1927-2018 – in WW II and civil war and purges.

  11. I just did what Demo Rep suggested re: search US Senate Ne3w Mexico 2018. I got no results.
