On August 23, U.S. District Court Judge Gershwin A. Drain ruled that Michigan must use a straight-ticket device in the November 2018 election. Earlier he had ruled that the 2016 law abolishing the device is void. The state is appealing, and while the appeal is pending, the state wanted to avoid using the device.
The state will probably now ask the Sixth Circuit for a stay.
One more CRISIS appeal — since the Nov 2018 ballots will be printed circa Sep 10 —
esp for overseas USA troopers fighting ANTI-Democracy barbarians.

Richard, I am trying to recall the history on this because I lived in Michigan until ’98 and remember that then Governor John Engler was instrumental in getting the device removed. That was twenty years ago and IIRC, there was a petition drive to put it back on? Can’t remember, and internet searches only seem to want to show the current news. Thanks in advance.
and BTW, speaking of “devices,” I also remember that elections in the Great Lakes State back then were always by mechanical pull-the-lever devices. Made a very distinct sound when your votes were cast… or if they really were. Have read about rigged machines where gears with greater/fewer teeth were nefariously swapped in.
