Missouri Press Association Sponsors an Inclusive U.S. Senate Debate

On September 14, four of the five Missouri U.S. Senate candidates who are on the ballot participated in a televised debate. See this story. The four candidates who participated were incumbent Democrat Claire McCaskill, Republican Josh Hawley, Green Party nominee Jo Crain, and independent Craig O’Dear. It appears the Libertarian Party nominee, Japheth Campbell, was invited but chose not to attend. Thanks to Ken Bush for the link.

Missouri Press Association Sponsors an Inclusive U.S. Senate Debate — 4 Comments

  1. Is there somewhere I can get transcript of the debate. Most of the accounts I’ve read only talk of republican or democratic participants I would like to gauge for myself.

  2. I hope Japheth Campbell had a good excuse. It really looks bad when we’re all fighting for debate inclusion of minor parties and then when they finally invite the minor parties, the candidate doesn’t show.

  3. KMOV-TV originally streamed the hour-long sparring live and just posted the raw unedited video on its Facebook page —

NOTE: the audio is initially mute and doesn’t kick-in till the candidates start to introduce themselves. (@ time code -1:00:08)
NOTE: you don’t have to subscribe or log-in to Facebook to view this video. So when that pop-up appears simply decline the offer.

ps- I spoke to the sponsor, MO Press Assoc, and they noted that the LP candidate was AWOL — an unexpected no-show. Too bad, missed opportunity.

  4. According to Japheth Campbell’s facebook, he was working that day, at an event scheduled months in advance.
