Ford County, Kansas, Sued Over Moving Only Dodge City Polling Place from Downtown to Location Beyond City Limits

Much publicity has been given to Dodge City, Kansas, over the location of its only polling place. In September, the Ford County Clerk moved it from the Civic Center, which is downtown, to an Exposition Center that is one mile beyond the city limits and 3.7 miles from the old location. Dodge City has many Hispanic residents.

On October 26, a federal lawsuit was filed by the ACLU, asking for an injunction requiring that a second polling place be opened, the new one to be inside Dodge City. Rangel-Lopez v Ford County, Kansas, Clerk. The case was originally assigned to U.S. District Court Judge John W. Lungstrum, a Bush Sr. appointee. But he recused himself, and now the case is assigned to Judge Daniel Crabtree, an Obama appointee.

The hearing will be November 1 in Topeka, at 9:30 a.m. The county wanted the hearing to be in Wichita, but its request was turned down. The county fiercely defends its decision; here is its brief. The county says it is providing free transportation for any voter from the voter’s home to the Expo Center, on election day. Thanks to Marilyn Brune for this news.

Ford County, Kansas, Sued Over Moving Only Dodge City Polling Place from Downtown to Location Beyond City Limits — 11 Comments

  1. NO public skoools, saloons/bars, stores, churches, gas stations, motels, etc. in Dodge City

    — to be taken over for voting ??? — or even the election clerk’s residence.

Any city hall in the burg ???

Any empty interstate trucks nearby ???

Any empty railroad cargo cars nearby ???

How many MORON corrupt hack so-called election officials are there now in the USA ???

  2. The Civic Center is not downtown it is in the northern part of the city. It appears to have been supplanted as a venue by the United Wireless Arena which is adjacent to a casino on the western outskirts of the city.

The Western Expo Center is on the southern edge of the city. The primary employers in the county are Cargill and National Beef Packing. For obvious reasons these are to the east of the city. If workers can get to these meat packing plants, they can get to the expo center.

The polling place is not exclusive to Dodge City but serves all of the townships in the western part of the county. Ford County has 3 other polling places for townships in the eastern part of the county.l

  3. Dodge City High School is on the outskirts of the city. It has lots of parking, but those are likely filled on school days. One of the middle schools looks like it might have been the old high school. It has some parking spots carved out on the side of the block for teachers.

The Long Branch Saloon is on a movie studio lot in Los Angeles. Besides, it only has a hitching rail and the street is dirt. The county administration building at 100 Gunsmoke does have parking across the street, bit it looks more like an office building – no place to set up voting booths, etc.

  4. In case of emergencies any regime can take over assets

    — see the just comp clause in the 5th Amdt

    — written regarding the survival of the Am Rev War Army after hyper-inflation and under-support from some States

    — IE Gen Washington seized all sorts of military supplies and gave out IOUs

    — esp in 1780-1781 – to defeat the Brit tyrants

    — along with major French support — French coins and major French army/navy aid.

Way too difficult for New Age HACK M-O-R-O-N-S to understand.

Thus — Democracy and elections or MORONS in control.

Kansas State morons even worse morons than the D.C. local morons — in NOT taking over the D.C regime for election purposes ???

One more reason to wipe out ALL State regimes — with their USELESS HACKS ???

  5. The judge in response to the request to move the hearing from Kansas City, Kansas to Wichita moved it to Topeka, which is not much closer to Dodge City. The defendant will either have to drive in the middle of the night or take off Halloween to stay in Topeka overnight. Essentially the hearing will kill one of the final days before the election. If it was an emergency, the judge could have held the hearing in Dodge City.

The school district owns the Civic Center. They are building a new administration building apparently attached to the Civic Center, which is basically an arena. The school district sent the county a map saying that construction would begin in October, and showed much of the parking lot being under the new administration building.

The city is providing bus service to the new location. The regular bus service stops about 1 mile from the Expo Center and the plaintiffs claimed that voters would have to walk the remainder of the way, but the regular route is being extended on election day. Dodge City also has door to door bus service on demand, which is being extended to early voting at the county administration building at 100 Gunsmoke which is downtown.

While the plaintiffs claim that the old location is nearer major employment centers, this is deceptive. By far, the two largest employers are two meatpackers each with over 2000 employers. Travel time to the new polling place is quicker. Other major employers are a casino on the western edge of the city, a medical center on the far north edge, and a Walmart on the western edge of residential area. Any major employer has built on the edge of town where there is land available for parking lots and other facilities. The high school even has a fishing pond where students in phys ed are tought to fish.

  6. Gee- any post-election day case all ready to be filed

    — lack of polling place access [akin to lack of ballot access for candidates]

    — fill in blanks — names and addresses.

Demand for a NEW election ???!!!
