New York Political Leaders Choose April 28 for Presidential Primary

The New York Democratic Party has recommended that the legislature move the presidential primary to April 28, and the Governor and leaders of each house of the legislature have agreed.  The New York legislature is now expected to set that date.

This will be the latest presidential primary ever held in New York.  Although the party has had some presidential primaries in April in the past, they were never this late in April.  Thanks to Frontloading HQ for this news.

New York Political Leaders Choose April 28 for Presidential Primary — 6 Comments

  1. I kind of wonder if the date would be earlier if Cuomo was running for president.

  2. Is this changing the primary date for all presidential primaries or only for the DEM party?

  3. Smart move on the part of NY Democrats. While most states are moving their primaries earlier, someone in NY figured out that a big state holding a later primary in a crowded primary season could be more decisive.

  4. Brandon, it will have the effect of changing the presidential primary of all parties to late April. The Democrats have a majority in each house of the legislature, so what they want will happen. When the Democrats made their decision, they notified the state chair of the Republican Party. They didn’t ask for his input.
