New Hampshire Legislator Changes Registration from Republican to Libertarian

On June 28, New Hampshire Representative Max Abramson of Seabrook said he is changing his registration from Republican to Libertarian. He had made a similar change in May 2016. While he was in the legislature then, he changed from Republican to Libertarian, but did not run for re-election. Instead he became the Libertarian nominee for Governor in 2016. He polled enough votes to give the Libertarian Party qualified status, which lasted until the 2018 election.

Some time afterwards, he changed his registration back to Republican, and was elected to the House again in 2018, as one of the three Republican representatives from the Rockingham 20 district.

He now says he had given the Republican Party one more chance to show that it is a small government party, but that the 2019 session of the legislature has disillusioned him about the Republican Party.

New Hampshire Legislator Changes Registration from Republican to Libertarian — 12 Comments

  1. The LP got FED UP with the Elephants in 1970-1971

    — with the Nixon regime wage and price control machinations

    — on top of the undeclared wars in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.

Since then — the INSANE deficits in the Reagan, Bush I, Bush II and Trump Elephant regimes

    — quite enough to cause an econ collapse of Western Civilization.

PR and APPV and TOTAL SOP.

  2. Max Abramson is a toxic selfish asshole whos just trying to make himself famous.

Lets point out the errors here, the Libertarian Party isnt recognized for registration or ballot access in NH, so he can’t actually change his registration, no mechanism to legally do so exists.

Furthermore, after he pulled this stunt in 2016, And convinced the LP to nominate him and petition him onto the ballot as an “INDEPENDENT” not as a Libertarian, he maintained his partisan registration as a Republican, and NEVER registered as a Libertarian when it became available.
Furthermore, as he was unhappy with the other candidates nominated by LPNH in convention, he circulated his own petitions and tried to challenge and kill the LP petitions in favor of his chosen slatw of republican candidates.

After losing, he IMMEDIATELY announced his run as a Republican for state rep, to get his old seat back.

He regularly attends LPNH Meetings where he rants about how the purpose of the LP is to support republicans and only attack democrats. He was rejected at the 2017 LPNH Convention and didnt recieve a single delegate vote for the National Convention. However she showed up anyways, tried to nominate himself for vice chair of the National Party, and was promptly booed/laughed out of the convention hall by the entire convention delegation.

As a NH Libertarian, I’m happy to correct the record of falsehoods in this post, and make it unequivicably clear, we don’t want Max, and neither do the Republicans.

  3. The New Hampshire voter registration form has a blank line for choice of political party, so physically, anyone can register into any party he or she wishes.

  4. Is the registration status public information? Does it have the history of when it was changed previously and to what publicly available?

  5. Literally every statement made by JOD here is false, and he is part of the crew continuously engaged in bickering and infighting. Anyone who understands the ballot access laws in New Hampshire can see that his statements can’t be true. I never ran as an independent, nor did I pull any stunts. After winning major party status, we were finally able to register as Libertarians for voting purposes, which I did.

JOD definitely does not speak for all of the 1100 or so people who were registered as Libertarians in New Hampshire when the party lost ballot access again in 2018. We can focus on winning state and local elections, or continuing the infighting and bickering that has driven so many people away. I’m 100% committed to helping other libertarians get elected to office to help restore our lost rights.

  6. Max is still listed as a Republican on the statehouse website and in the State’s voter database.
He did renew his LPNH membership recently, but he’s very much still a Republican via his affiliations.

  7. Per discussion with LPNH members voter database is available for $25 per precinct. Anyone want to shell out $25 to investigate the competing claims over Mr. Abramson’s (non)party voter registration status and history thereof?

  8. I just looked at the I got from Keene when I bought that list last fall, and it doesn’t show voter registration history.

  9. PS
The next meeting of the Supervisors of the Checklist in Seabrook is August 29. I’ll check in early September to see what his voter registration says.

    PPS
He’s still listed as a Republican on the NH State House website
