It might be interesting if they keep Trump of the ballot in California, and he gets re-elected anyway. The popular vote total would be highly distorted, and cause people to wonder if he could have won the overall popular vote.

Walter, Yes, I would like to see that, not only for the result you mention, but also to raise awareness of the need to place the names of the actual presidential electors on the ballots, and not the party nominees. Then, to facilitate that, go to district elections of PEs (Maine and Nebraska style). If the system can be corrected to its original intent, then it would be much easier for independent and minor party candidates to run as presidential electors in much smaller venues and increase the possibility of winning some.

The California bill has nothing to do with the November ballot. It only relates to presidential primaries. And it doesn’t bar anyone from filing as a write-in, so Trump will probably win on write-ins in March 2020, if this bill is signed into law and it isn’t thrown out by the courts.
