New York Democratic Party Chair Says He Wants to Eliminate “Sham Parties” from the Ballot

This article carries an interview with Jay Jacobs, state chair of the Democratic Party of Nassau County. He is the proponent of raising the number of votes needed for a party to retain its qualified status from 50,000 votes for Governor, to something several times higher. He says he only wants to erase “sham parties” from the ballot. He does not explain why he thinks the Green Party and the Libertarian Party are “sham parties.”

New York Democratic Party Chair Says He Wants to Eliminate “Sham Parties” from the Ballot — 11 Comments

  1. How about the SHAM name of the RED Donkey communist *party* — aka *Democratic* party ???

How many folks have moved OUT of NY State to escape tyrants like JJ ???

  2. Change the ballot design so a candidate’s votes are only on one line, you can still allow cross-endorsement (fusion) but the votes only count for the candidate’s actual party. Boom, sham parties are gone while not killing the real 3rd parties (Libertarian & Green)

  3. BL- Even ANY names of those *sham* parties are a threat in tyrant regimes.

See Hong Kong protests for months.

  4. The other party is the Independence party. Many of their members thought they were selecting to be an independent voter. Recently the Board of Elections added a No Party selection on the voter registration form. On their reports, they indicate independent voters as “BLANKS”.

  5. I suspect there will eventually be a lawsuit by the WFP, Greens, and Libertarians against the Democrats and their ballot commission. If it gets to that point, I hope the lawsuit succeeds. New York becoming as difficult as Illinois for parties other than Democrats and Republicans would be a terrible loss for what precious little remains of anything resembling a democratic election system in this country.

  6. If this clown wants to eliminate sham political parties, he should start with his own party, the Democratic Party, and then eliminate the Reublican Party.

  7. Elimiating the Democrats and the Republicans from the ballot, would get rid of the two biggest sham parties in the country.

  8. I wouldn’t mind seeing all political parties abolished so that voters would vote for the individual.
