Ksmama Sawant, a leader of Socialist Alternative, appears to have been re-elected to the Seattle city council. The election was November 5, 2019, and not all the ballots are counted yet, so this outcome is not yet certain. See this story. Thanks to Steve Kamp for this news.

  1. Because billionaires should be allowed to buy elections, right “me”? I’m sure a little plutocracy would have helped Seattle’s poor and working classes…not. Even if you don’t agree with socialist/left-wing economics, surely you must agree that the wealthy being able to pump immense sums of money into elections and thus essentially shouting over the poor and working classes, is not healthy for what little remains of democratic elections in this country. This case shows the need for public election funding. I’m just glad that enough people in Seattle weren’t swayed by Bezos and his wealthy friends’ tactics.

  2. Seattle uses Top 2.

The results show the value of a conventional runoff over IRV where there is clear choice between the top candidates, vs. the muddle under IRV.

  3. Please show me her finances and her donor and spending information.

Oh and Jim, Top 2 is a failure. It shuts other voices out.

  4. Another interesting point is that Kshama Sawant is the only non-Democrat on the Seattle City council.
