West Virginia Ballot Access Bill Dies

West Virginia SB 733, which had passed the State Senate, will not pass this year’s session, because the House Judiciary Committee chairman did not bring it up for a vote, and now it is too late. It would have expanded the definition of qualified party from a group that got 1% for Governor, to one that got either 1% for President or 1% for Governor. Thanks to Jeff Becker for this news.

  1. What States have EQUAL ballot access laws for ALL INDIVIDUAL candidates [partisan and independent] for PARTISAN offices ???

Only some top 2 primary States ???

  2. Wisconsin has equal number of signatures for all candidates for any particular office, whether they are running in a primary or general election.

The top-two states do not have equal ballot access requirements. In California an independent presidential candidate in 2024 will need over 200,000 signatures (unless the law is changed), but presidential primary candidates just need to be on the ballot in some other state’s presidential primary.
