New York Democratic Candidate Says Ballot Access Petitioning Should be Suspended During Virus Outbreak

Roger Misso, who is a Democrat running for the party’s nomination for U.S. House, 24th district, has called on the state to suspend the need for candidates to collect signatures during the corona virus outbreak. In New York, Democrats and Republicans must petition to get themselves on the ballot for district office. Misso needs 1,250 signatures of Democrats to get on the June primary ballot.

  1. There are so many filing requirements now: declarations, campaign finance reports, personal financial statements, that the need for petitioning seems an unnecessary burden. Candidates who can comply with all of the required paperwork should be let on the ballot, maybe with a small filing fee deposit.

  2. @Andy,
NY does not have any of those (Initiative, Referendums, or Recall), it sucks being here in NY

  3. NY — one more gerrymander TYRANT regime —

to be liberated by the 18 States with voter pets for state const amdts.

    APPV
    TOTSOP

  4. In Massachusetts, the Governor has declared a state of emergency. Given that circulating nomination petitions can spread disease between strangers, it seems reasonable to enjoin all petitioning activity, and require that the Elections Department only require a candidate to submit his or her acceptance of candidacy.

  5. Actually, I already knew NY has no statewide initiative, referendum, or recall process via petition at the state level, but it does have an iinitiative, and possibly referendum as well, process via petition at the city level in at least a few places, or at least in New York City, but they do not happen very often.

I was not just referring to New York though, since the Corona-Virus is national, actually international. There are multiple states that do have initiative, referendum, or recall petitions happening, or being planned to happen soon, so this could impact them as well.

  6. Circulating petitions no more spreads diseases than going to A grocery store or gas station or mall or church or school, or anywhere else where there are people.

I have been circulating petitions for many years, and I rarely get sick.

  7. ONE PERSON FORMS–

I NOMINATE ABC [TO ENACT WHATEVER TO END THE CV-19 CHAOS].

I WANT ISSUE XYZ ON THE BALLOTS.

I WANT TO RECALL ALL MORONS [ A VERY LONG LIST OF ARROGANT MORONS IN GOVTS ] WHO NEVER HEARD ABOUT T-O-T-A-L QUARANTINES FOR NEW DISEASES WITH NOOO CURES.
