The California legislature has placed a proposed constitutional amendment on the November 2020 ballot. Proposition 18 will ask voters if the voting age should be reduced to 17, if the voter would be age 18 by the general election for the same offices.
IMO, that should be up to each party to decide.
Except in California, primaries for congress and partisan state office are not nominating party nominees.
I would vote no on this.
Another lousy consequence of Top-Two
Congress should establish Open Primary Day on the first Tuesday after the first Wednesday in September (56 days before the general election). A candidate with a majority may be elected.
No candidate may be placed on the general election ballot for Congress by any method other than petition (maximum of 0.1% of last gubernatorial vote) and/or filing fee.
I don’t see a problem. 16 or 17 is easily old enough to vote.

I have no interest in expanding voting to more people. There are already too many ignorant people, and/or idiots, voting. There are also way too many people with conflicts of interest voting (government employees and contractors, as well as recipients of various forms of welfare, etc…).
If anything, we’d be better off if millions the aforementioned people were taken off the voter rolls and legally barred from voting.

Most 16 and 17 year olds live with their parents, and they can’t join the military until age 18. Keep voting to a minimum of 18.
I thought you could join the military at 17 with parental permission. Did that change?
Fred C, Californians under age 18 can already register to vote, but their application is put on hold until their 18th birthday.

You can definitely join the military at 17. So at a bare minimum no 17 year old should ever be denied the right to vote.
A person can pre-sign up for the military at 17, but they are NOT actually in it at that age.
