Arizona State Government Files Lawsuit to Force Tucson to Hold Even-Year Elections for City Office

This story says the state government of Arizona will sue Tucson in the State Supreme Court, to force the city to hold its city elections in even years instead of odd years. Tucson is a charter city, and charter cities can manage their own affairs unless a “state interest” is implicated.

  1. Cities– should b ONLY political subdivisions of a State.

    EQUAL legis and exec powers in all cities by general laws.

  2. What about the vast stretches of land between cities where there are currently towns and villages?

  3. 2 or more cities can have joint legis / exec stuff.

    State real estate is a state matter — roads, parks, etc. — and esp seasonal stuff – plants / animals in state areas.
