  1. This isn’t a bad compromise, though it may be confusing to some people thinking of running for office who don’t normally follow this stuff closely.

  2. NOOO extremist primaries.

Single person nom pets — ONE [general] election Day.

PR and AppV — pending Condorcet.

    TOTSOP

  3. Jim – the California primary has never been in August. It has long been held in June – first Tuesday after the first Monday in June. This has put California near the end of the Presidential primary season, in most cases after the nominations have been determined.

This issue is why the legislature made an early primary this year, but it is not an issue in the years when the Governor’s race is at the top of the ballot.

  4. @GB,

The state primary was in August, with a presidential primary in May. They were combined in June.

Because the presidential primary is partisan with segregated party ballots it is an adulterant for Top 2 and non-partisan races.

  5. Since CA vote is known in advance maybe they could have their primary after the election. Like February maybe. Of the following year to simulate the economy.

  6. If Republicans weren’t selfish assholes and didn’t move to other states when they don’t get their way and would hang around to fight maybe the would have an outside chance of winning. Until then Dems have a one party start. I did read it would swing to majority Republicans in 2040 when Latinos start gravitating more Republican.
