On July 10, Kanye West submitted a Missouri petition to be an independent presidential candidate.
The requirement is 10,000 signatures. See this story. The story does not say how many raw signatures he submitted. Thanks to Kyle Kneale for the link.
Concerning his Illinois petition, this story says he spent $30,000 to collect approximately 4,000 signatures. It is not possible to know if he will be on in Illinois until the challenge process is held in early August.
NY Post reports he’s still gonna try to get on NY State ballot by the Thursday deadline. https://nypost.com/2020/07/27/kanye-west-submits-petition-for-missouri-ballot-eyes-new-york-state/
Interesting article. It mentions that some of his backers are trying to help the lndependent Party candidate’s run for Congress in a district in Hudson Valley. Reason for that is that he is trying to get the nomination from their party for New York as they probably have ballot
access. So he and his team are actively trying to get the nomination from a third party political group. Good for him!
30 k probably means it was more like 3k sigs. The other story said he paid 10/sig. Another one said 412 petition sheets. Someone incorrectly extrapolated 4120 signatures, as if each line of every sheet was used, but that is unlikely. Another source in a quasi-private discussion said 3178 raw sig. 3178 on 412 pages with room for 4120 if every line had been used would be $31,780 at a rate of $10 each, and that can easily be rounded down to 30k. Given that he’s been an objection he most likely once again wasted his money. It’s likely the same thing will happen in Missouri, New York, etc.
What are the odds he’ll be listed anywhere except Oklahoma?
Colorado is merely a filing fee. I’m sure he can afford that.
Does he have electors in each state?
Isn’t Louisiana also just a filing fee and having electors in the state?
Richard, did anyone else file in Missouri? Kanye filed in New Jersey yesterday as well, he submitted like 1300 signatures.
Good question Curtis. What about Jade Simmons and fellow billionaire candidate, Brock Pierce? Also one of my favorite third party candidates after Jo Jorgensen is Rocky. De la Fuente (no it is not Kanye West, he comes after them). Come on Rocky!
Who cares about all these entitled celebs and johnny come lately losers?
None of them have any chance to win.
That is Duverger’s Law.
Even if one won, he/she would be stuck with a dem/rep Congress, Judiciary, State government etc.
What is needed is a sweep.
That is PLAS or counterPLAS.
Trump has achieved counterPLAS.
The GP and LP have thrown away PLAS/
So that leaves the dem, Biden, as the only other possible.
Politics as usual.
