  1. Section 1 of the Harrison Alaska Organic Act of 17 May 1884, would allow Alaska to expand to included Greenland if President Trump issued an Executive Order because Greenland has been an Insular Possession of the United States since September 1871.

A landing party from the USS POLARIS at Thank-God Harbor, Greenland took formal possession of Greenland in the names POTUS Grant and the SECNAV. All that need to be done is Alaska gives its consent and follow the practice of the “New Hampshire Plan of 1835.

  2. @ “took formal possession of Greenland”. Absolute clap trap.

The only landing in modern times that matters on “possession” is in 1721 by Lutheran missionary, “Apostle of Greenland,” Hans Poulsen Egede, bringing some 40 colonists to Haabets Colonie. Egede reestablished Dano-Norwegian interests over Greenland, founding Greenland’s capitol Nuuk.

Egede applied for permission from the Danish Crown in 1711. This implies internationally recognized “possession” of Greenland by the Danish Realm. Egede was granted power to govern via the Bergen Greenland Company. Subsequent settlement projects took place as well…under grant by the Danish Crown.

A mutinous and in some cases drunken expedition (mostly of Germans) landing in Greenland some 140 years later aboard a mismanaged USS POLARIS is entirely irrelevant. That ill-fated “Hall Expedition” (who had no navigational training) ended with Hall murdered by arsenic and the ship crushed in 1872…all long after Denmark re-established “possession” (for the second time) of its earlier viking settlements: Eystribyggð. Vestribyggð. Brattahlíð.

De facto,Greenland has been under the Danish Crown since the late 1300s; and from 1979 under self rule within the Danish Realm.

  3. I worry more about Reagan’s giveaway of Wrangel Island than I do about Greenland.
