Politifact, a fact-checking website that uses neutral experts, here finds the statement that minor party and independent candidates generally hurt Democrats is false. The analysis has some data that minor parties hurt Donald Trump in 2016, and that Kanye West hurts Trump this year. Of course, West’s attemps to get on ballots have been so badly handled so far, he won’t be on many ballots in any event.
I wouldn’t go as far to say that Kanye’s “attempts to get on ballots have been so badly handled so far” is an accurate description. Given how he didn’t really even start until mid-July, his ballot success is more or less around where most people expected him to be.
