Ben Jacobs Story on Kanye West Presidential Candidacy

Ben Jacobs, a politics reporter, has this article about Kanye West’s presidential candidacy on Medium. Toward the end, Jacobs sensibly says to the extent that West draws votes away from either major party presidential candidate, he draws votes away from President Trump.

In my opinion, Jacobs overstates that likely vote for West in the states in which he is on the ballot. Jacobs seems to suggest he could get 2%. I will predict that his vote in every state in which he is on the ballot will be under one-half of 1%. Thanks to Rick Hasen for the link.

  1. I also doubt Kanye will get many votes.

FYI, I heard that they are so desperate for more Kanye petition signatures in Virginia, that they commissioned a private Leer jet to fly in more petition circulators, which was quicker than flying them in on commercial flights.

  2. @Andy – Do you have a contact for their Virginia crew? I’m only a half hour away and would be happy to make some money.

  3. ANY white Elephant votes for Mr. West ???

Last black votes for Ike in 1956 ??? [grand folks of 1861-1865 freed slaves]

    — plus a New Age few blacks who can detect the elitist RED commies in the donkey party esp since 1992 Clinton ???

  4. Jeff Becker I do not have info for kayne petitioners but if you want to make some money today and tomorrow in Virginia, especially the 6th us house district in the western part of the state, contact Nick Dunbar for libertarians

  5. His number is 703 309 6301 try that, I think it’s right. I’m not sure if texting or voicemail is better.

  6. I just spoke with him and they are done. But thank you for the contact. I hope to be able to help out next year for governor.

  7. I agree he likely won’t get many votes, but it would be interesting if Kayne does end up meeting some vote thresholds to become an established party in some states. Then the Birthday Party could continue on to 2022 and beyond.

  8. That number if for somebody in the Libertarian Party. This person has no connection to the Kanye West campaign or petition drive.

  9. I don’t see any third parties getting many votes this year, but where Kanye is on the ballot he will place third.

  10. I have a really hard time seeing Kanye West coming in 3rd place anywhere. Few people are taking him seriously. I would not be surprised if he gets less votes than Jo Jorgensen and Howie Hawkins.

  11. I’d generously guesstimate his national vote total as 20,000. He’s only on the ballot in 6 states that combine for about 6 percent of the population, only one of which is likely to be competitive.

  12. Brian S. Jenkins,

What six states are you talking about?

You need to count California because he will be on that state as VPOTUS.
