New York Conservative Party Nominates President Trump

On August 29, the New York Conservative Party chose President Donald J. Trump as its presidential nominee. This means he will be listed twice on the New York, and voters who want to vote for him can do so under the Republican label or the Conservative label. The convention was virtual.

In 2016, Trump was also the Conservative Party nominee. As a Conservative nominee got 291,947 votes, 3.81%.

  2. Richard, what historically has been NY’s policy in situations like this with respect to electoral vote allocation? Are candidate totals combined to determine who receives the electoral votes, or does a move like this actually potentially harm a candidacy of a major party nominee?

  3. IMO, a fusion candidate for President should be able to combine votes of all electors pledged to him or her, but the line that gets the most votes for that candidate is the one whose electors are chosen.
