  1. I think Approval Voting is the best choice for moving forward since it is pretty good while being quite simple to use and understand.

RCV seems appealing at first glance but is disappointing once you look into the details. No wonder 5 cities have tried it and discarded it as it just turns into sortition in close elections with 3 or more candidates. Nobody likes to think that their candidate simply got lucky or unlucky.

Condorcet is better than RCV but has the same basic problem in close elections. With no clearcut Condorcet winner the election is decided by which set of rules are adopted for selection the winner. There are many such rule sets and they can often choose different winners. If there was one rule set that was clearly best, that would be one thing, but there is not.

  2. Thanks for making my point. Typical voters are not going to understand that tiebreaker stuff and will therefore be suspicious.

By comparison Approval Voting is simple. Whoever gets the most votes wins.

  3. After seeing Approval Voting used at some LP conventions, I am not really a fan of it. It seems to benefit the status quo.

  4. Approval Voting benefits candidates with crossover appeal. If you prefer the term ‘centrist’ or ‘middle of the road’, that is fine.

Personally I think this can work to the LP’s advantage in the current climate of polarization.

  5. MORE/LESS control freak statist robots —

  6. Question if majority YES vote should be a requirement for exec/judic offices.

IF none, then vacancy — for PR legislative body to fill.

ANNUAL elections for PR legis and execs.

  7. @ Andy:

If you collapse the Nolan chart from 2 to 1 dimensions, libertarians end up in the center. IMO, libertarians are radical centrists, but NOT moderates.
