Nebraska Bill to Elect All Presidential Electors Statewide

Nebraska State Senator Julie Slama (R-Auburn) has introduced LB 76. It would eliminate the Nebraska law that lets each U.S. House district choose its own presidential elector. Instead, if the bill passed, Nebraska would imitate the 48 states with winner-take-all elector elections. Thanks to Rick Hasen for this news.

In last year’s election, one Nebraska district voted for Joe Biden, while the other two districts voted for Donald Trump.

Nebraska Bill to Elect All Presidential Electors Statewide — 9 Comments

  1. As of now, Omaha and Nebraska side suburbs more or less have their own electoral vote, which went the other way.

  2. Simple gerrymander math —

IF State Control party math same as Prez party math —

THEN ALL at large — crush minority.

IF NOT, THEN gerrymander EC districts to max – get 1 or more EC votes, IF MATH POSSIBLE.
    ——–
ALL more reasons to abolish the EC AND ALL THE MACHINATIONS WITH IT – ESP GERRYMANDER AREA MACHINATIONS.

  3. Someone get in touch with Gary Tauchen in Wisconsin and put a posse together (RE: LRB 513/1).

  4. Since Nebraska is majority republican it’s a good idea for them to pass this bill. Other states which lean democrat should do the opposite. What is best varies by state but basically it’s good if it helps GOP and bad if it hurts it.

  5. Republicans in Nebraska should consider that maybe choosing electors by district discourages voter fraud in Omaha. Otherwise, they might lose the whole state

  6. I know I’ve said this before, but given the continuing uproar over this election, it bears repeating that Maine REALLY DOES have the BEST system for choosing electors in the current political climate. The district system minimizes the effect that fraud in any one district could change the overall state-wide outcome. And the ranked choice feature minimizes the spoiler effect of any 3rd party or independent candidates. Critical swing states like AZ, GE, MI, PA and WI should adopt it for 2024.

  7. Gerrymander Math for Math MORONS [worse than mere Dummies]-

1/2 or less votes x 1/2 gerrymander areas = 1/4 or less CONTROL = Oligarchy
