Percentage of Voters Registered in Minor Parties Rises to Highest Level in 100 Years

The December 1, 2021 print edition of Ballot Access News will have a chart showing the number of registered voters in each party, in each state (in the states that have registration by party). It will show that the percentage of voters registered into parties other than the Democratic and Republican Parties is higher now than at any time since BAN has been tracking registration data, which started in 1992.

And data available to BAN for the period before 1992, although never published, shows that the current percentage is higher than at any time since before 1922.

Subscriptions to the print edition of Ballot Access News are only $18 per year (for 12 issues). BAN depends on its subscribers to continue in existence. The website generates no income. Please consider subscribing if you don’t already. Checks can be made out to BAN and sent to PO Box 470296, San Francisco Ca 94147. Thank you!

  1. GUESS WHAT ??? –

PUBLIC PARTISAN REGISTRATION LISTS = P-U-R-G-E LISTS — ESP FOR TROLL MORONS.

  2. People have HAD IT with the “top two” political parties, both of which have the intellectual equivalent of the COVID virus ( and they are just as lethal!). The current crop of third-parties have proved to be a WASTE OF BALLOT SPACE (and their registrations are proof of their lack of electoral impact!). So what is a “No Party Preference” voter to do? Fun Fact: In 1854, a NEW political party called the “Republican Party” came out of nowhere, and its 2nd Presidential candidate was ELECTED in 1860! You may have heard of him, his name was LINCOLN! There was NO mass media (social or otherwise!), NO mass communication (the telegraph was the 19th century Internet!), and in just 6 years a political party goes from non-existence to having its candidate for POTUS ELECTED! So, what the hell is the excuse of the CURRENT CROP OF “THIRD PARTIES” in every state? You think that the “top two” parties protecting their own legislative monopolies, and choosing their own gerrymandered voters have something to do with it? Or is it because the third parties are all about their “principle” and DO NOT ACKNOWLEDGE CURRENt REALITY? By having what we always have, we will continue to receive what the “top two” give us!

  3. Politics was a lot different then. For one thing, there were no government printed ballots. For another, the costs and methods of campaigning were relatively accessible to regular people banding together. There were no billion dollar ad campaigns or national tv exposure or giant social media campaigns. People campaigned by train stops, in person speeches and debates, and through local news papers. This included the distribution of ballots.

  4. Membership in the DemoRep party has surged to … ONE!

    ==

Per Mike, of course, the post-Compromise of 1850 world fractured the Whigs, and fallout from Kansas-Nebraska & runup to the Civil War fractured Democrats. While the past four-five years have been problematic, it’s not been close to that.

  5. Which explains why both major parties, from New York and California to Alabama and Georgia, are working as hard as they can to keep third party and independent candidates off the ballot every way that they can.

Our entire political system is being frozen into “blue” states and “red” states, with a handful of “battleground” states in which elections are decided between the two great political armies, with third party and independent candidates stuck in a “no-man’s land”

  6. So WHY are the third parties NOT CHANGING THEIR ELECTABILITY TACTICS if they NEVER GET ANYWHERE? When you take up ballot space in all elections for OVER 40-50 years (e.g. here in CA, where the American Independent, Peace and Freedom, and Libertarian Parties have existed for!), your continuing existence becomes something of a political JOKE!

  7. NOW –

high tech rigged gerrymanders for ALL legis bodies- esp if local political subdivision boundaries are ignored.

Result — RED commies vs fascists. See Germany 1929-1933 / Spain 1931-1939.

With SCOTUS HACKS letting the USA regime wipe out the States via perversions of 1-8-1 Genl welfare cl and 1-8-3 inter-state comm cl — almost ALL political POWER in the USA is NOW in 218+50/51+1 = 269/270 Fed gerrymander MONSTERS.

    — pending a 3rd Continental Congress / 2nd Fed Convention — to be surely suppressed by such 269/270 monsters.

    SCOTUS –
brain dead about gerrymander math since 1964,
brain dead about equal ballot access since 1968.

  8. Plurality voting and single member districts have locked out many third party and independent candidates.

IMO, third party candidates should campaign to consciously and deliberately spoil elections in order to motivate fundamental changes in voting methods.

Altho there was no deliberate effort in Maine to spoil elections, the fact that independent candidates had frequently spoiled elections there compelled the state to switch to ranked choice voting.

Therefor, third parties should consciously advocate spoiling elections

  9. Therefor, third parties should consciously advocate —

    NOOOOOOO extremist primaries.
