Texas Judicial Candidate Wins Decision Keeping Her on Democratic Primary Ballot

On January 5, a Texas trial court in Bexar County ruled that Lisa Uresti-Dasher should remain on the Democratic primary ballot. She is seeking a judicial nomination. She was challenged by her opponent, mainly because the opponent felt that she had used two different versions of her surname, Uresti-Dasher and Uresti Dasher. See this story.

  1. Because filings were with the Bexar County Democratic Chair, Monica Alcantara, she was the defendant in this case, while Lisa Uresti Dasher was the real party in interest. Because she was running for a district court judgeship, all the Bexar County district judges apparently recused themselves, a visiting judge had to hear the case.

    Alcantara had apparently accepted the application and would have placed Uresti Dasher on the ballot. Since she was acting in an official capacity, she had to be sued, just as would happen if it was believed that any other official had failed to follow state law.
