Federal Lawsuit Filed to Overturn New Georgia Campaign Finance Law that Gives Incumbent Governors a Special Advantage

On January 6, a lawsuit was filed in federal court against a new Georgia campaign finance law that permits the incumbent governor to raise unlimited campaign funds, whereas all other gubernatorial candidates running against him or her are subject to limits.   1. The incumbent Governor might need to legitimize any “emoluments” that he may have received while in office.
